Savannah Hotels
For a first city trip, start inside the Historic District. Move outward only when a car, lower rate, or a south-of-downtown plan matters more than walking.

My first filter is whether the hotel removes the car. If the trip centers on the squares, a room inside or directly beside the Historic District can be worth more than a lower airport rate once daily parking and rides are added. Check the address against the official district map; booking sites use “downtown” loosely.
Choose the hotel area first

Calculate the stay, not the headline rate
Compare the same dates and room terms, then add nightly taxes, destination or amenity fees, parking, pet charges and breakfast if they apply. A downtown room that removes a rental car can beat a cheaper airport room after daily transport. The reverse can be true for a Tybee-focused trip or a one-night road stop. Record whether a fee is per room, per vehicle, per guest or per night.
Parking language needs scrutiny
“Parking available” may mean paid valet only, a third-party garage or a public garage several blocks away. Ask for the current overnight price, in-and-out rules, vehicle-height limit and electric-vehicle procedure. City garages publish their own standard and special-event rates, but a hotel package can use different terms.
River view does not describe access
River Street is below Bay Street. Public elevators connect the levels at Bull and Bay streets and near the Alida Hotel, but a hotel's internal route is property-specific. Ask about the route from the room to the lobby and street, not simply whether the building has an elevator. Historic buildings can combine several structures with different floor plans.
Why there is no fake top-five list
I can make a defensible area recommendation from maps, transport and total cost. I cannot honestly review a room from affiliate availability and photographs. Property-level recommendations will appear only after the fees, room categories, policies and stay evidence support them.
My hotel-location test
Map the walk back from the dinner or evening tour you are most likely to book. If that return works for your group, the location works. This catches bluff access and distance problems hidden by a generic “downtown” label.
